slimming down a blazer

I just got my MTM blazer for a tailor who is a pretty old guy. He said he'll make it slim and modern looking. I just got it and its nothing like he said. Its really well made and fits great around the chest, shoulders and arms. But from the chest down, the blazer feels like 2 to 3 suit sizes too big.

What I want to know is, if major slimming is made, will it cause the rest of the blazer to look out of proportion or look weird. does anybody have any experience with this? I really dont mind the cost of alteration, i just want to look good.

I'm not an expert but you should be able to.

I recently had an older Canali Kei jacket taken in. It was originally very boxy (in a casual comfort sort of way) and now fits like a glove.

A potential issue I can see is if your blazer had strong windopane/check patterns that might be messed up by the adjustments.

its just a plain navy one.

I'm just worried cause its going to have to be taken in a lot.

From the chest down isn't a problem. If you just need the sides tapered and taken in a bit, that's probably the most basic operation you can do. Getting the coat shortened about an inch is also possible, though any more than that and you'll throw off the balance of a coat.
