The latest and greatest amongst old farts and plebian folk is something called the Hometown Buffet. Dear god, shoot me!

Elitist.

Last time I ate there it did make me ill. And it was filthy.

Sizzler was a nightmare. When I was 12 or so, I forced my Mom to take me there for the "Unlimited Fried Shirmp Buffet" offered on TV.

She put up a valiant fight, but eventually relented. Even to a 12 year old who loved him some fried shrimp, the place was disgusting. And the shrimp was nasty.

But I'd be a liar if I said that I didn't enjoy the DIY soft-serve ice cream sundae station. That was pretty amazing.

+1 on the soft serve. All this Sizzler talk is making me want to try it out again after 10 years.

I have also witnessed the Red Lobster all you can eat shrimp event last year. I ate 107 shrimp, placing second to my friend who ate 108. It made me so sick that I had to have someone drive me home with the seat reclined to a comfortable 44.6 degrees.

The Iron Skillet and Old Country Buffet are very similar to Sizzler but I find they lack something in atmosphere and don't offer the same diversity of buffet selections.

One thing I have always wanted to do is to install a full-service, totally operable buffet in a gallery of an art museum and have actors grazing. But the materials list never fit onto one of those little brass placards.

When talkin' Sizzler, I think we need to mention two keys to their success: that cheesy, buttery toast and the Malibu chicken. Unhealthiest "chicken" dish ever?

It was strange that they named that Malibu chicken as I don't think it is at all like California cuisine. I remember that it was fried and topped with ham and cheese and finished with a mayonnaise style sauce. It seemed like an interesting combination of Southern cooking with a French twist.

Already mentioned this dish and its tastiness. Also will explain my heart attack at 35.

I went to Sizzler a few times growing up, but never to the buffet. I remembered you would order your steak right as you got into the restaurant, and it would be ready when you got to the cashier.

My family went to the Horn & Horn Smorgasbord buffet, that was some good eatin'.

I finally made it to Lobsterfest at Red Lobster one year and was was disappointed -- the lobster tasted frozen, not fresh as promised. But the cheesy bread things were awesome.
