I have not heard of this club, but here in Atlanta there are some old school groups like this you hear about from time to time. Here its mostly the 50+ to 50++ age group.

Yeah, those blue men are annoying. You let them into the club and next thing you know they're making music with the pots and pans from the kitchen and they've created a confetti cannon out of golf clubs. You certainly don't want that at your club.

I had a membership at the La Jolla Country Club (in San Diego) for a little while. It was quite a bit different than I had expected, and while I wouldn't say it was a bad experience, I'm not sure if I could say it was "worth it" or recommend it to friends. Many reasons for that - bland dress code, bland food, bland company, etc. I think country clubs are losing popularity with the younger crowds, and as a result, tend to be made up mostly of older people. And by "older people", I mean people in the diaper-wearing stage of their life. Not that there is anything wrong with elderly people, but for the expense involved, I found a dinner club (like the Rainier Club) to be much more enjoyable overall with many more networking opportunities. It's kind of a bummer to join a club when 99% of the members have been retired for the last 30 years, and whom you are likely to have very little in common with.

I know that not all clubs are like this, and from what I've heard, my experience might have been unusual. All I know was that for 6 months of membership, in which I attended the club perhaps twice a week, I saw very few people anywhere close to my age. I just brought friends (or my girlfriend) and enjoyed it for what it was. I should also give credit to the club for a networking opportunity that led to a rather lucrative contract with a research firm in the area. It just about covered my club fees, so overall, I guess you could say I broke even (almost).

Of course, I could just be pissed off that I never saw any Carl Spackler types like I had hoped for.

Up in Boston, they already have their own group, anyway.
