Please don't wear a crewneck under a button-down, that just looks awful. Also I can't imagine I'd ever want to wear a long sleeve tee under a dress shirt either. Finally, $30 for a Gap tee =

If it's so cold that you really need to wear something under a button down, get some v-necks with the v deep enough that it isn't visible. Hanes or Jockey or whatever in the 3 pack will do the job. Or some wifebeaters.

It won't look like that when you're wearing it because every element of that photo is retouched to look better. Even if you looked as good as that guy naturally, the rumple and slimness and so forth wouldn't be the same, it would look crappy and bad. To get "that look" in a better way:

1) Buy a heather grey American Apparel jersey vneck
2) Buy a heavy shirt from Gitman or W&H or ToJ
3) put them together

Plus Gap tees fit like ****. I bought 2 vnecks a while ago, they were exactly the same size (so I know it wasn't a weird random mutation), but they were sized for a 5 foot 4 inch sphere.

clarksdb: Yes on the AA shirt, that is the right one. Try it on in a store if you can.
Sweater is fine, it will look fine with the right color of polo but it would probably work better with a buttondown.
Shoes are everything trendy distilled into one incohesive ugly package, do not buy. Seriously they are incredibly ugly.
