Shoes with Blue Linen Suit?

Manton, I've found that chestnut works really well. It surprises me because I generally like a shoe darker than my trousers but the mid and dark browns can seem dead with blue linen. If the timing calls for black shoes, a pair of black tasseled loafers works really well with blue linen. As to suede, I'm not so sure. I've got Green's Belgravia in black calf and nutmeg suede but have always gone for a chestnut calf over the suede when given the chance.

If you can't bear black, how about oxblood or mahogany?

I have a navy linen suit in about the color you describe and I've worn tan, mid and dark bown with it. They all seem to work, depending on the setting.

I've narrowed it down to bandaid blucher monks and black side buckle monks. Wife strongly prefers bandaid. I lean that way, but I think black might look neat, might draw out the suit's "serious" side, as it were.

OK, down to two:

Bespoke bandaid monks

-or-

Lobb Russell (punch cap blucher) in tan buffalo.

Latter are grained and slightly darker, also double-soled.

Help!

I vote bandaid monks. The Russell just seems too "cold weather" to me, like something that would almost go better with tweed.

But what is this world/forum coming to when the mighty Manton is ASKING for opinions on how to dress?

+1 on the monks -- the combination of buckle and greater contrast in color will complement the linen texture

I have a dark blue linen cotton suit made from what looks very similar to the chino lino Incotex fabric. It is my summer blazersuit. Yesterday, I wore the jaket with white on white seersucker trousers (with a hairline light blue stripe) and lightish tan monks (chisled last).

Today, I wore the suit, white and mid blue linen cotton shirt, brown soporific tie with tiny blue patterns and dark brown captoes in a modernish round last. Worked well.

Another option is to wear it with specs. BB had some leather & tweed specs a few years ago and they work well.

Dark tan and off white wingtip specs are another option.

: I do not like buffalo or deer with linen or cotton. The suits gets wrinkley enough and I prefer the contrast of a smooth shoe.

Does anyone ever walk into your office when your feet are on the table and you are taking pictures of yourself? If so, does it make them uncomfortable? I know it would not bother you. Just wondered.

Manton,
