Shoe Trees and Sperry Boat Shoes?

Some shoes looks better the more beat up they are and boat shoes definitely are this type.

Here's my pair that I wear almost daily. I got them in the eighth grade and am still wearing them as a senior in college.

I use a rubber band, I find it's a bit classier than duct tape.

Do the following experiment. Put a little water on a varnished tree and put a little water on a cedar tree. Let the water sit for a while and wipe off the excess. See if you can detect a difference in how the water was absorbed by the two different materials.
