I really don't want to have to buy another bedroom just to store clothes in the City.

I'm really running out of space. Right now I have shoes stacked in racks in my closets. The nicer shoes I like to keep in their original boxes, which I have stacked in other closets. But every closet has pretty much reached maximum capacity. The other thing is that I would love to have them all in one place rather than split among closets... but I think that really would require converting a bedroom into a dressing room, which is fine in the burbs, but I'm not going that route in the metropolis - too silly even for me.

So what are the best shoe storage options? Anyone have good solutions? Are the racks my best option, and I just have too many clothes?

somebody mentioned having a wall of cubbyholes for shoes, which i thought was a marvellous idea, if impractical. but who needs vinyl and CD walls when you've got beautiful shoes on your walls?

i have a 15-pair shoe rack nearby the apt door, then have the rest racked in 2 closets and stored in the over-the-door holders (mostly sneakers in the over the door rack). the bed bath & beyond o-t-d shoe holders are made of canvas and has a nice brown to it...

I went to IKEA here in Sweden a week or so ago and saw this:

Essientially a bunch of plastic shoe trees that one puts inside the wardrobe and pulls out when needed. Seems to be room for at least 16 shoes. Don't know anything more about it (nor how good this really is for the shoes), I just thought I wanted to show it here

(I can't seem to find it on the US IKEA web pages, but here it is in Swedish

The Lobb chest is really cool. I like racks on which you can see the shoes though. I feel like that case would make it hard to see what shoes are where.

the lobb chest is not nearly as elegant as the chest you posted, but, for me, it would be more practical as it could double as a bench. if it had an Ikea price tag it would be in my closet.

True, it does look like it could double as a bench or some sort of a chest-like use.

Which John Lobb did the Chest?

I guess it doesn't matter as I'll bet my cabinetmaker could convert one of the drawers in my new office cabinetry to shoe storage!!!!
