Shirt on jeans - tuck in or not? [images]

Hi everyone. I'm new here

Felt like putting on my NYE outfit last night, but ran into a problem. I'm totally not sure if I should be tucking my shirt into my jeans or not. I have included pictures to show my problem:
(Don't mind my cuffs btw., didn't close them.) I'm having a casual dinner with some friend, and after that I'm going to a party, so I wanted to be casual, but still able to dance quite a bit .

Problem with the shirt out is, I feel like I have a tail following me, and it covers my whole jeans back pockets - which makes me think it's too large?
However, when I tuck it in, I feel like a cowboy - so what's the way to go here?

You look like a slob with it hanging out. Tuck it in. If you want to clean up the look to be a little less cowboyish, a narrower belt would help. And/or wear a sweater.

Based on those photos, the answer is obvious. If you don't want to look like a cowbow, wear a shirt with a different pattern and without both breast pockets.

OP that is a cowboy style shirt you got on there, so yeh wearing it you probably will feel and look like a cowboy.

IMO looks like you're off to do some line dancing somewhere.

Heh, gotta say you guys are right. Should've thought of that when I bought the shirt, lol. I guess I'll always look like a cowboy, no matter how I pull it off.

I'll try it with a slimmer belt, though.

But really, is it that bad?

Yeah pretty much...unless you are going for the cowboy look of course.

Otherwise with that shirt, belt, and jeans that's the only look you can get. Those bowleg doesn't help either, looks like you could ride a wheelbarrow

why not get a smaller belt and throw on a navy blazer.. I think that will look a lot better

Tried it with a different belt, I think it looks a bit better, but still meh.. Problem is I haven't got a lot of shirts. All the other ones I'd not even dare step outside with (and in this one I would, so go figure!) so I'm kinda forced here.

I usually wear casual clothes during the year (meaning hoodies, t-shirts etc, nothing really stylish. The reason why my 'stylish wardrobe' isn't really that developed)

For example, next month I have to give a presentation (in a group). We agreed to 'match' clothing styles, I suggested to go in a suit, but the other group members told me they wouldn't feel comfortable like that. Fair enough. So we agreed on jeans+a shirt. Which kind of dress shirt would you guys suggest to go with that kind of jeans? My dress shoes are black too, so I'm guessing I should be using the black belt as well then?

It's an oral defense of a project I did in a group (school project). I wanted to go in a suit, but the other males of the group said they don't feel comfortable in one so we all decided to go in the same 'style'. Which was jeans+dressed shirt for them. Not as classy, I agree, but it can work, if done right, no?

Any classic oxford should work. Button down collar, white, blue, tan, some sort of university stripe. You'll want something a step above plaid sport shirts.
