Any comments about the costume of the new Sherlock Holmes film? I expected quite a bit and I wasn't disappointed. Of course, the elegance only goes so far, with all the fight scenes, blood shown, and dirt. The few women dressed well too. We have a SH marathon on our TCM channel these days and I note at last some of the earlier ones went modern - i.e. one today made in 1946 actually brought up to date with 1940s autos, etc. But the new film is assumably 1890s, with methinks some perhaps somewhat modern makeup on the ladies, etc.

I saw the movie on Christmas Day and thought the suits were done very well. The movie had a dark overtone, so they kept with that look. I thought Watson's outfit (suit?) in the dinner scene was interesting to say the least. I did like the rounded collars on many of the dress shirts, and Holmes' reference to custom made shoes.

I'm seeing that movie in about two hours, anything else I should be on the lookout for?

You and me both, but in our defence I would say that with Quantum of Solace, there is hardly anything worth paying attention to beside the clothes. I liked Casino Royale, but Quantum was just utter **** and completely forgettable. Other than the clothes it had absolutely nothing worthy of attention, aside from maybe the redhead and the car. On another note, I just returned from sherlock holmes and I thought it was kind of good. It got a bit goofy with all the magic, and unaquainted with sherlock holmes as I am, it was not immediately obvious to me that it would be revealed by Sherlocks keen eye not to be magic after all. In the end though, the story turned out more sensible than I had expected halfway through, and I did like the stuff jude law wore. Not too keen on what seemed to be a black corduroy overcoat worn by sherlock, and I somewhat agree that there should have been more worsted. I did like the custom shoes that sherlock referenced (looked like black semi-brogues to me) and also Lord Blackwood's (Mark Strong) black chelsea-boots. All in all a pleasureable experience, if not taken too seriously, and a decent way to spend 2 hours with a few bonuses for the style-conscious.

Dreadful movie, dreadful (and wrong in regards to Holmes) costumes. Avoid, especially if you're someone with even a modicum of Holmes knowledge.

ya... i didnt think the movie was all that great. Anyways, the dress shirt that Jude Law wore without the collar, looks pretty decent. And darn SF! I was watching the movie and kept thinking about the attire... Like the Chesterfield coat that the inspector had... and then the handmade shoes.. haha.. that is just a sick...

No ****.... I watched Metropolitan with the wife last night, kept staring at the clothes, had a roaring moment of personal comedy at the deep gorged jacket the Rick Von Slonecker character was wearing.
