Seeking ONE GOOD Suit

QUESTION 1:
Looking to reinvent my wardrobe by starting off with a classic navy suit. Quality fit wearability and stylishness are my top wants. Not familiar with all the brands but have done some research and found the following ones of interest:
Zenga
Hickey Freeman
Canali
Joseph Abound
Loro Piana
Hugo Boss
Jones New York

Any thoughts on any of these designer suits or others that you would recommend. Looking to spend under $1000.

QUESTION 2:
I found suits online by very high end designers at drastically reduce prices. MyHabit, Gilt & POPSUGAR to name a few.
Products from the designers listed above are not represented anywhere near my current location.

That said do you recommend purchasing high-end designer clothing online having not tried it on? I must admit I'm very tempted because the price reductions I'm seeing on these sites, assuming they are legitimate authentic articles of clothing are fantastic!!

I appreciate your feedback, advice, comments etc.

Your list is a good one, but don't put brand name over fit. Most of my suits are Hickey Freeman mainline as their 39R fits me pretty well. Go to stores, try on all of those on your list and go with the best fit. Alternatively, find a good local MTM tailor and have one made with your choice of style, fabric, options, etc. If there are no decent tailors near you, make an appointment with one before your next trip to NYC or Chicago. mytailor.com and other traveling tailors are another option. If I was looking for one good suit, I'd have it made.

Zenga suits might be sub-$1k on Yoox, but a Zegna will set you back a little more . :)

I don't think Jones New York is going to hang with the rest.

Beware the flash sale, as often they are often seconds or last years models or diffusion lines branded as the main. You can find some good stuff if you dig, but do your research, and if you are afraid of what you're getting and you don't have a return option, be wary.

I personally wouldn't go MTM if you don't wear suits normally. I jumped into that realm too soon myself (after about 6 years of suits but before I got religion) and less than 3 years later don't wear what was made.

Whatever you do, avoid "deals" like the plague. Rookie mistake 1A.

I would probably go with SuitSupply's MTM service, which is about 500 dollars for half canvas and 1,000 dollars for full canvas. Super-long thread here: http://www.styleforum.net/t/250682/suitsupply-nyc
