On one hand I'm surprised to hear this but on the other it seems so typically British. Sorry it turned out poorly for you, and I hope future purchases fare better.

BTW - I used to have Dunhill Edition and didn't care much for it. I think I loved the name more than the juice. I was so much younger then.

Thomas, I am still on a lavender "water" exploration, probably obvious from my question regards the Caldey. While on the net last night I also ran across Jersey Island lavender and Isle of Wight lavender. Any experience/knowledge with these two? Prices are less than Caldey, but no references/experiences related on any site I know. (Can't blame the Brits on the Dunhill; only dealt with the New York store and Americans.)

John, sadly I have no experience with Jersey Island nor Isle of Wight. Odds are that the lavender oils are similar enough due to geographical proximity, but the compositions could vary wildly. Even the simplest Lavender waters are lavender oil plus other oils, bases, alcohol, etc.

If you haven't come across St. Charles Shave's products (soaps, shave creams, edt's), you might drop a few ducats on her lavender cologne. Very reasonably priced, and modest shipping. I have her Oakmoss and Lavendula (haven't yet tried the straight lavender) and it is far better than the price would indicate. The lavender portion of O&L is quite good and the opening is similar in tenor to Caldey Island, although the oakmoss soon takes over and makes it a bit more lush.

Thank you again, Thomas. Yes, I am acquainted with Saint Charles Shave. Just this week she started making samples available through her site. I appreciate your advice and may well check out the lavender cologne. I did obtain a small sample of SCS lavender aftershave balm through a B&B member, and do not find lavender in the scent - just mint.

If she added menthol to quench any burn, I'd be hard-pressed to sniff out any lavender at all. Nice to hear she's offering samples now.

You know, Noir Epices never thrilled me that much. I think it was interesting, it just felt flat on me... almost like it would be a better Room Spray or Interior Fragrance than a body one. I dunno... but I love so many of the FM line that I must admit I was a little disappointed in this one. What about it attracts you, out of curiosity? (I'm only curious because you and I are so often RIGHT TOGETHER on scents that I'm curious if your "nose" is getting something out of NE that I'm not). Anyway, for me today was Tauer L'air du desert morocain... a very nice, dry, but still sultry scent for late summer/early autumn. I don't know if I like it better than Timbuktu... which feels in the same "universe" to me... but it still is very nice.

^Geesh, how manly Thomas. Then, did you go hunt and kill some sort of wild animal and cook its meat for supper?
wink.gif

Anyway, for me today, I'm thinking L'instant de Guerlain.

Yeah, I'm roughing it out here the wild Houston outback. Without power. Still.

But my scent is manly as well. Once again, UMP. Still trying to figure out the secret causing my indifference to it.

Cool in the morning, but warming up during the day to become quite hot. So, I need something versatile and balanced, and for that Eau de Lalique fits the bill.

This one is really one of my favorites for summer... not as citrusy or "odd" as Malle Bigarade Concentree (my ultimate favorite), but this one is light, a little powdery, but considerably softer.

A chilly morning again (in the 60's - holy cow!), so I went with another summertime fave - New West.

^Hey, I didn't get the memo that it was L'artisan Day!

So, to join the club, tonight we have a department party and so I'll wear L'a P "Passage d'enfer." These parties are the occasions where we drink and have to pretend we actually like each other, so "Gates of Hell" is a pretty apt fragrance.
