ended up with no rez, and walking in to my fallback Tao only to realize how much of a cluster it is on weekends. (too clubby.)

hopped a cab to flatiron and went to Tamarind on the rec of my colleague. this saved the day as the food was excellent, affordable, and well suited to my audience's diet constraints. our waiter was terrible, but overall great experience.

What's wrong w/ Tao? I loved that place when I lived in NY...

To the OP, you could try Nobu next door, not a bad place.

I'm carefully tracking this thread so I know exactly which restaurants to stay the hell away from.

the Dutch does have some excellent food. I don't know about the trendy factor since I was there twice within a week of its opening where everything is trendy, but despite some opening kinks the food was impressive and I'd recommend it to others. The biscuits alone are worth it.
