My wife has a pair, she likes them but honestly I am happy with my Ray Bans, my brother in law also had a pair of MJs only to have them fall apart in under a year, they were fixed I believe but still kind of a pain.

I have had a pair of MJ titanium for a number of years. No problem with the quality. I prefer Ray Bans polarized offerings and have a couple of pairs. The MJ pair I keep with my fishing tackle.

I've owned a few pair and skied with them...they're terrific.

I like my Maui Jims well enough, but I do not find them to be particularly well made. One of the lenses wiggles around the frame a bit if a bit of force is applied.

The polarization is excellent, but the shading on my particular model is too bright. Great for driving a covered vehicle, but not so great, say, on a boat on a sunny day.

I much prefer Reptile shades.

I also have had two pair of Maui's. Style is "sporty" not dressy but they are very well made. The ugly cases they come in, FWIW, are crap- if they're out in the heat at all, the covering tends to warp and come off over time.

Maui Jim has one of the best lenses on the market. Person is also excellent quality glass. Maui Jim is somewhat more sport fashioned than the classic Persol.

Oliver Peoples, while offering nice fashion forward frames, has less than high quality lenses. Basically, if you're going to put prescription lenses in your frames anyway, purchase Oliver Peoples frames. If you're going to wear them with a suit, purchase Persol or Oliver Peoples. If you're going to fish or wear them to the beach, wear Maui Jims. Don't wear any sunglass with a glass lens to play sports with a ball, etc. where the chance of shattering is there.

I'm on my second pair of Maui Jim, the "Whaler" model. Love them. Have the brown tint, which I prefer over the gray. Agree with Cary Grant, the cover over my case peeled off in no time, but no big deal, I bought another at a drugstore. Am happy with the glasses.

x-post from the SW&D sunglasses thread...TIA

...I have a few style choices to redeem my company gift but I don't have any experience with MJ, although I've read that their lenses are superb but I don'l like the visible logo. I can't really complain b/c I'm getting it for free. Btw, this is for daily wear and not for any specific activity. Any changes in quality/construction from recent years? I would appreciate you feedback.

The quality of Maui Jims are very good. Especially the lenses, Maui Jim lenses has one of the best polarized lenses in the market and definitely worth every penny.

Also Maui Jim's warranty is excellent. Even if it isn't covered, most repairs on the frames or lenses are affordable. It really is a good company to work with.

If you like the Akoni style, you might also like the Ohia.
