Anyone do this? I'm considering it for overcoats, jackets, and other items of clothing so they don't get lost or misplaced. Will it be tacky to order small labels and sew them on? It seems wrong to take a marker to the lining . . .

A couple of vintage coats my wife owns have monograms.

A wool overcoat with an embroidered monogram on the inside of the lapel, and a curly lamb coat with three small diamond pieces of fabric (each with a letter emboidered) sewn in the back, next to the designer label.

Perhaps this is another way to go...simple monograms.

My mom labeled my clothes when I went to kindergarten. I'm a bit more responsible these days.

It will not stop them from being lost, misplaced, or stolen. I find it strange that an adult is constantly losing overcoats and jackets.

My old dry cleaner used to put my name in my shirts on a very-hard-to-remove sticker.

MTM and bespoke jackets tend to have your name printed on a tag inside one of the interior jackets. If RTW, I don't see what the big deal would be with writing your name down in the same place. No one will ever see it unless they're checking to see who the jacket belongs to.

About name printed on a tag, I don't think there's any difference between bespoke and rtw jackets.
In any case on my bespoke shirts and suits I refuse to write my name or my initials.
