Ok, so I have $257.75 to spend and I want a few items. Help me decide what is the best for me. I am high end preppy with a taste for nice denim (Earnest Sewn and two brands you would consider questionable, Diesel and 7), Lacoste polos, Polo polos, Sperry topsides, long sleeve button downs, driving mocs, New Balances and life. I don't have a pair of driving mocs anymore and I like the ones that J Crew makes and the ones that Hush puppies make, especially since I can't afford Tod's or Gucci. I also don't have a cable knit sweater and being that I go to school here in Philadelphia, I am thinking I need some. I just lost some weight and lost ******, as well as some chest weight and therefore, my button downs and Lacostes look a little big on me. With my $257.75, what should I get? That'd be what I'd look at, since you can't really buy them at a discount anyways, and they're the most versatile thing you posted.

If you are deciding between the two loafers, i would choose the second link. However, loafers imo are quite hard to match with casual clothes. I normally wear mine with trousers. They also come in tan and white but under a different brand, exactly the same design. edit: Just looked at the WAYWT thread, and cultpop looks pretty good in his loathers with jeans that are bunched at the ankle.

A lot of folks just loaf loathers. Personally, I like a lot of loafers, but don't wear driving loafers.

I choose the cable knit sweater (maybe one in a light color and one in dark? the "vicuna" looks nice), though I'd want to check out the blend they're using in person before buying.

cultpop's loafers are an example of them being done right. They have to have some real interesting qualities to them to pass as wearable.

Regular loafers tend to look out of place in pretty much every situation that I can see.

Actually, most people who would classify themselves as "trad" (i.e. folks who post on the Ask Andy Trad Forum) wear loafers all the time (in fact, they're probably the only folks you'll find who advocate the wearing of loafers with a suit). However, the loafers are generally of the Alden variety, so are not what most would consider trendy or flashy. As one who wears them (though I stay away from the tassles), I prefer the term "classic."

Not really. Do you have a particular aversion to buying off of eBay or YOOX? I doubt you're going to find anything that is widely approved here unless you are willing to move away from J. Crew, Nordstrom, etc.

On the other hand, there are very few people on this forum who are so into the preppy aesthetic (Dusty, CharlesRogers might be the only ones I can think of off the top of my head), so expect that even though you may find something you and your friends are into, we won't be turned onto it here.

Anyway, so loafers aren't good these days? Hmmm. I was just looking at getting a pair of AE's Milfords to wear with maybe some charcoal flat front wool pants and a leather sport coat or regular sport coat with a dark colored sweater? If you don't have a lot of sweaters and you live in Philadelphia, I would buy a lot of sweaters. As a Junior Trad I wear one pretty much every day of late fall and winter.

As far as loafers, I like the way they look but I agree they are hard to wear without making you look old and they don't always lend themselves to being worn with jeans. As a rule driving shoes are better than penny/Venetian, and suede is better than leather. Probably don't want to wear suede loafers in winter though.
