Nope. These are the same jeans you can currently pick up at Barney's. Context, DressCodes, and of course Mauro should be getting their hands on these and other Crate models soon. My customs are sitting somewhere alone at Crate HQ.

I really like the details on those Crates. They're a lot nicer than some of the earlier models form them that I've seen. How would you describe the fit - repro style or more modern?

It's a hybrid or a "modern repro." Here are some measurements on a 34: Waist: 17" Front Rise: 9.5" Back Rise: 13.5" Thigh: 12.5" Knee: 8.75" Hem: 8.75" If you took out the 34" waist and 9.5" rise, those are roughly the measurements of a repro fit. Since they're meant to be worn low, however, you just don't get that vibe by looking at them on someone or wearing them yourself. Really, they're unlike any jean I've ever tried on. My advice on James/Sally/Hamilton is to stick to your usual waist size. You could size down one (and Chad would recommend it) but as I'm not that hard on my jeans and always wear a belt, I usually don't get much stretch. My advice on these Journals, however, is to size up one at the least, two if you're a casual wearer like me. As you can see, they do run true to size but the lower they sit, the more room you'll need to account for. Even at one size up (33), it was hard buttoning the top two buttons (the top was near impossible).

I think some guy in Japan is wearing them

the Journals and the Route are great alternatives to APC NS, for those looking for a good raw selvedge jean at the $150 pricepoint

That guy better like American and Costa Rican flags as pocket bags. I'd say the Route, because of the taper, is more for the APC NS types. The Journal is more for the "everyday" crowd. Still, both are made with the same great features and same great denim. Along with the Hamilton, I really see them as a more accessible version of LVC with the added bonus of denim with some history.
