Music depends on the people. I'm a big fan of many indie bands (Brazilian Girls, The Shins, Spoon). So if there are alot of "indie heads" at the party, I won't mind that music.
For a more general crowd, Top 40 music will always get people dancing and more energetic. Women always love 80s music. A little techno never hurts, too.
