Hello Everyone,

Its finally time for me get me some classic outerwear. I was planning to buy an overcoat and a peacoat this winter. But I am a little confused about the color options. I was planning to get the Peacoat in Navy and the overcoat in Black. Could you please say if this is the right choice of colors for the two?

Navy is the only right color for a Peacoat

Thanks for the link. That one looks nice! I also found a Ralph Lauren! Currently still looking. Had to confirm about the color before finally going ahead and putting in an order. Thought of besopke. But i don't know any trusted tailors here to get it done!

any thoughts on brands of navy overcoats that hold up well, are warm , and not boxy. The ones at Brooks Brothers/JosBanks are pretty square looking.

No I haven't because I 'd like to try on a garment before I buy it.
My own taste is Ivy-derived because I like natural shoulders, but
have been wearing side vents and shaped jackets for over 30 years-
which used to require MTM. I especially like their sportcoat fabrics which
are very different from the Italian stuff the high end shops sell in my area.
For overcoats, if I needed any- I live in California, I would definitely order from them
because they sell the kind of English/Traditional coats I like and have
a very wide selection::Full disclosure: My present overcoats which I brought
from Chicago when I moved 25 years ago are a Burberry Cashmere and
Wool Balmacaan, and an Invertere Great coat in gray melton. My 32oz
British Warm went to Goodwill several years ago.

I tried on camel once i was shopping at an outlet mall, but the color did not suit me. But i fell in love with the overcoat thing! That's when i decided i have to get one. But it does look classy!

Classic colors are midnight navy peacoat and charcoal gray overcoat. Charcoal gray would coordinate with brown shoes/boots, whereas a black overcoat would not.

If you're going cheap, I think Uniqlo is the only way to go. Or get a "real" peacoat at an army surplus.

As for the colors, mine are a navy peacoat (the classic, and goes well with casual brown shoes), and i have yet to get a mid to light gray topcoat (which goes well with both formal and semi-casual and both black and brown shoes).

I am going all out on the overcoat. Taking into consideration the holiday season, I have room for around $250, give or take a few, for the peacoat.
