They were pretty sure it's a pricing mistake. And VLSI, you are aware that the terms and conditions of these retailers always allow them to cancel orders where the pricing was clearly incorrect? Besides, I'm not looking to hurt any businesses in the hunt for shoe deals.

How would you "hurt" the business if what you said is in fact true that they have some fine print that allows them to cancel orders due to a price mistake? Whether they honor the orders that went through or not is their call.

man are you guys new first rule of a hot deal is to never call about the deal. sometimes even if it is a pricing mistake they will honor the first couple of orders.

I shouldn't have to explain why taking advantage of blatant pricing errors is wrong.

If your paycheck came in minus a couple of grand because someone made a typo, you wouldn't shrug your shoulders and say it was all okay. Normal employees with bills to pay and families to look after get hurt. If you don't understand why that's more important than cheap shoes then you need to grow up.
