Odd jacket with glen plaid trousers?

I have a black camel hair jacket that I typically pair with my heavy weight glen plaid trousers. I want to try a black silk polo collared sweater with them though. Can the black sweater and jacket work together? Should I simply get a black fedora too and travel with Michael Corleone?

The sweater obviously works with the pants. It also works with my gray herringbone jacket. But the jacket and pants together... not so much. Any thoughts on what odd jacket works with glen plaid?

I like your taste. The black sportscoat/plaid pants is a great combination. I would assume that you could wear the plaid pants with any small patterned jacket that has one of the colors of the pants in it. That is birds eye, or nail head patterns in black or if the pants have a colored window pane (usually blue or burgundy) you can wear a small pattern jacket in those colors as well.

Of course the plaid pants and black polo will go well with a leather jacket.
