I've recently been scouring the O'Connell's website and found some things that peaked my interest. However, I'm curious, how would you compare O'Connell's to Brooks Brothers, J. Press, etc. These are brands I'm familiar with, but not O'Connell's. I'm curious about fit, construction, materials, quality, etc. Would love any thoughts on how they all stack up. Thanks!

By in large, Brooks and J. Press have moved with the times to try and stay relevant to the fashion market, O’Connell’s has not. I would venture they still carry the same approximate inventory as they did in 1986. Of course a few of the suppliers have changed as domestic production has slowed down.

O’Connell’s has a fuller fit and a wide variety of inventory. I would venture to say that the quality is at least on par if not better then modern day equivalents at BB or JPress. I’m sure they probably use many of the same suppliers

I have 2 Shetland sweaters and 2 Donegal sweaters from them and like them a lot. Haven’t gotten any jackets yet cause I’m an odd fit…

Andover Shop has new owners as of 2 years ago. From
what I see on their website, they still offer their traditional
cut w/ a two button jacket, no darts, natural shoulders via MTM.
Their RTW seems to more "current" w/ narrower lapels.
Not as tweedy.

This place reminds me of Krall’s, a long-gone family-run store in Troy, New York that used to sell 3-button suits made by H. Oritsky and Corbin, Alden shoes, Eagle shirts and Robert Talbott neckties (the couple who owned the shop referred to him as ”Bob Talbott” and bought his wares when he used to travel the country selling from his car).
