Just got an e-mail from pokerroom, where I play online poker saying that the US government just passed legislation that essentially makes online poker illegal, even with offshore gaming houses. Well, that's another fun thing that our government has taken away from us. Is this the "freedom" that everyone's always fighting for? What a bunch of bullshit.

Yep. This is from the same bill that Frist inserted into the port security funding bill. IIRC, it makes it illegal for banks to transmit and receive funds use for internet gambling purposes, i.e. poker, sports betting, etc.,. http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=22011

Ah, I didn't see that other thread, thanks for the link. In any case, I guess we're entering the final phase of our government creating the true nanny state. I just don't see how these people can look you in the eye and tell you that we're fighting for our freedom, go throw "Freedom Concerts" and wear the American flag on their lapel as they slowly and meticulously take away our freedom. This is just inconceivable to me.

Full Tilt is still accepting players from the US and neteller still works so I'm not sure how much of an impact this is going to have. I used to play on party poker but about an hour ago I switched and had no problems putting money on full tilt. If neteller still works then the bill probably won't stop most people, I guess we will find out soon.

This really chaps ******. Luckily there is a poker room a few blocks from my house, but this law is truly lame.

Dear Sir. You still have your freedom to play all those highly enjoyable and suspenseful scratch ticket games. As long as your gambling money goes to US gov. it is all legal and good, not to mention highly patriotic. You wanna be patriotic don't you?!

Sorry

That would be one of several state governments, not the federal government.

Will they be coming for my poker table next? How about my scotch and bourbon? Decks of cards from various casinos to whom I lost money?

Jeez, if the war on drugs isn't working, then let's go after card games!
