Whose rule is it? And who comes to get you when you violate it?

I heard Jillian Michaels, the chick who hosts Biggest loser, saying that it's a myth. But she did say not to eat carbs at night because of the harm from blood sugar levels when you are sedentary. Calories burned/eaten is what you must look out for.

Also, I read somewhere that Will Smith follows this and it worked for him.

This is a bit of a misnomer. You just don't want to eat calorie rich food after 6. To really get the advantages of this diet, you want to eat fruit/vegetables, to keep your metabolism going without adding too many calories.

I'll echo what people are saying here - It probably has to do with the fact that you're eating less. And this concept of your body going into "starvation mode" after 10-12 hours of not eating is b.s.

alls i know is that the later it gets, the worse **** i'm liable to put into my body. i normally eat by 7 and then i have some bananas in case i get hungry later.

it's pretty easy for me since i'm in bed by 10 and up at 6 anyways.

and it's all out the window on the weekend.

you know why it's "good" for you to stop eating after 6pm? it's because you stop eating.

Is the reduction all that severe? I thought results were showing that the equivalent of 1700 cal/day gave the benefits - which isn't all that much less than what's recommended for most people anyway.

I honestly would not be able to do this. I'll eat dinner around 6-7PM and be hungry again at 9. My fast metabolism is off the charts. I'll even have 8 small meals throughout the day just so my stomach won't be growling.

I dunno... I guess so. I think that the 2000-2500 calorie recommendation is if you actually just sit around all day. If you exercise even moderately, however, you are going to need more than 2K calories, unless you are 100 lbs or something. I had a quick 1 hr workout today - and just the sprints alone (3 miles) were close to 400 calories. Exercise adds up quickly too. I tried 1700 calories, just to see what it was like, and I was so hungry I was jittery and had a headache most of the day. I could lose 10 lbs right now, but seriously, I'd rather be not in fighting condition than be hungry and thinking about food all of the time.
