Anywhere else on the field, a ball fumbled out of bounds just goes back to the offensive. The touchback in the end zone creates a big incentive for the defense to just let the ball go out of bounds, or encourage it to do so. Makes it way easier for the D to recover fumbles in the end zone, which is probably not intended by touchbacks rules.

good thing about the pats is that they can magically sell off their backup qb's because.. well im not sure. their backups are always terrible.This is why the Pats often carry only 2 QBs on the roster. We know we're screwed if Brady gets hurt and we can always dig up someone who is equally as incompetent as our backups. The new guy in NE might be a bit better than Hoyer / Mallet, though.
