I bought a new cashmere scarf. It keeps shedding fluff like crazy.

Is this normal for a cashmere scarf?

Will it stop doing that or is it always going to do that?

How do I know if it's good quality or not if I buy it online?

Would an alpaca scarf shed too if it's low quality, or no?

I was looking at some cashmere scarves in S5A - some shed like crazy, others - not at all. The ones that shed were made in China, iirc. Sale price was VERY close on both types of scarves - like $20 difference. All this to say that sometimes you really don't know what you're getting online

They were different types and maybe the shedding would stop - but I don't feel like risking it

Cheers

No, this is not normal for any scarf, no matter what the material. A tuft here and there is normal. More is not.

Eventually it will stop, but you wont have a scarf left when it does.

Generally unless its a brand name on discount you can expect to get what you pay for.

cashmere does pill, and you do have to shave it, but shedding like crazy, sounds like a **** scarf.

Generally, a high quality woven cashmere should not pill either. Shedding tufts yes, pilling no. I have Alex Begg and Colombo scarves in use for two-three years which have no pilling whatsoever. Every now and then I have a slight tuft that may come off the scarf but thats about it.

Knitted garments might pill.
