let see, brooks, polo, not much really else.

I live within walking distance of Del Amo Mall. So to speak I have a front row seat to the happenings around there. I remember when Montgomery Wards closed at the north end then it was one store after another till that whole section was dead. For awhile last year you could walk in the breadbasket of that mall lets say on a Wednesday night and half the stores were already closed for the evening at 6:30 pm.

I'm sure other factors come into play here like 3rd st in Santa Monica, Pasadena or Universal Walkway. I guess it is the reason they tried an outdoor shopping addition to compete with these other places. My take is still that it has become a dull mall.

same with beverly hills, i mean this is the only mall i know of that makes you pay to park and the elevators there take forever.

Yeah, the parking at CC is atrocious. I work a few blocks away, so I generally walk over. On the rare occasion when the wife and I got to a movie there, we'll generally park at the office and hoof the two blocks just to avoid that horrendous parking structure. It also discourages me from shopping at the Gelson's market there, which I otherwise would do on occasion.

My first pair of $200+ shoes were Allen Edmonds, like 12 years ago. Interestingly, despite all the talk of AE quality, those are the only shoe's I've ever had actually fall apart on me.

They maybe had some sort of self-destruct sequence or something?

Yeah, I can actually see CC mall from my office. I'm on Century Park East, with an office facing kind of southwesterly. I always think of my office as a good demonstration of the variability of air quality in LA. On a clear day, you can see Catalina with a good amount of detail. On a bad day, you can't even tell there's an ocean out there.
Today's fair-to-middling: I can see the ocean well, but no sign of Catalina.

I wonder if an A-E store in SCP will cut into Nordstrom's sales since they stock a good assortment of A-E. I had also heard rumors that A-E was planning to open a store on Rodeo Drive. Anybody know anything about that?

I was in the Del Amo mall a couple of years ago with my wife. It seemed thoroughly dismal. I have the sense that is true of most malls for me.

I am not a great mall fan generally. I like Desert Hills in Cabazon for the A-E outlet, the Block at Orange for the Saks Off-5th.

South Coast is the best of the bunch. Stores of interest:

Saks, Nordstrom, Brooks, Polo, Faconnable, Macy*s for Men--and I don't buy much at any of these establishments.

Fascist Island:

Gary's, Bloomingdale's, N-M. Again, I don't buy much.

I will drop by Santa Ana Main Place to visit the Nordstrom's because it's so close to my office.

That's about it for me and SoCal malls.

Not a mall, but I think the Rodeo area of BH offers the best shopping in SoCal, but of course it tends to be pricey!

Shopping malls are depressing. I can tolerate outdoor malls like Woodbury Commons or the Americana, but enclosed malls really depress me. Give me Madison Avenue anytime.

thats what im saying. over 200 stores and you got only these of men's quality sartorial interest.
with the addition of AE it slightly balances out the lopsidedness but still cannot compete with the likes of BH and New York.

bring in JL, EG, Brioni, Kiton. bring in DVacca, turnbull asser? etc

this will bring in alot more male clientele from all over the country and the world, as you know, male clothing and accessory spending has increased alot more over the years.

you're being a bit shortsighted....SCP also has Barneys Co-Op, Valentino, D&G (for better or worse), John Varvatos, Ted Baker, Lacoste, Armani, etc....sure these might not be brands you frequent but they are of interest to a lot of guys, probably more so than an Edward Green boutique with $1000 shoes would. I dont think that mall has the demographic to support a store like Vacca, Green, Kiton.

I love SCP. It might be my favorite mall in the country, with a nice combination of convenience, stores, etc. There was a great French restaurant called Troquet on one of the upper floors, with a nice secluded patio, great for just drinking wine, having some appetizers, and chillin' out. I think they recently closed, however. Nice to see AE taking notice of such a nice mall, though.

Century City is great for one reason, and one reason alone. If you're living or working in LA, you can shop at SCP and then return the stuff you don't want at Century City.

Beverly Center sucks. I never feel like it's crowded, but yet it's always hard to get around.

As you mentioned, Troquet is closed. I don't see there being a market for high end menswear at SCP, in any case Gary's at Fashion Island carries Oxxford, Brioni, RLPL, etc. although I don't believe they have a great selection of shoes.
