What kind of stripes would work best?

I am currently looking at a dark navy suit with lighter blue stripes. I think this would look nice with a light blue shirt and a darker blue tie.

Thoughts?

Depends on your profession and climate and skin color. I see bankers in very bold stripes with charcoal and blue worsteds all the time but those would look strange in other professions. I love gray with chalk stripes in flannel for Winter but would probably never use such a suit in warmer weather.

The combination you suggested would look fine. You can do a number of things with stripes. Classic white pinstripe, blue like you suggested, even pink if you want to. It really does depend on the environment, atmosphere, etc.

I'm not a fan of pinstripe navy suits with a light blue stripe. I see it often, but it doesn't appeal to me.

So I guess you cannot compare these kind of suits with a solid navy.

What do you mean? I am assuming you already have a solid navy, otherwise you should buy one before delving into stripes, as the solid navy much more versatile. I like both pinstripes and chalk stripes. If you go for something wider-spaced, don't get it too bold. You'll like like a pimp or a wannabe gangster.

I'd agree for most guys, myself included. I know a few guys with their own personal style that can pull it off just fine though.

For pinstripes on navy, I think cream works best.
