No... thats not beyond the streak, thats because of the streak. I mean- do you realize how many at bats it took him to get those numbers? Staying healthy/tough is a good trait but it doesn't make you an all-time great. If he missed even an average number of games over that career he wouldn't have even got 300 and 2500, I mean he was what, a .270somthing career hitter.

Others

Michael Turner - he rolls up 200 and 3tds against ****** teams like the Lions and then disappears against good teams and gets like 50 yards on 20 carries.

Adrian Peterson- partly b/c of the reason mentioned with Turner, but mostly b/c of commentators that say things like "he's the best running back since Jim Brown" I mean come the **** on, you really think he's already passed Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith, LT, and Walter Payton ? I don't think so.

You could also argue that if he had time to rest he would have been refreshed, remember he had a lot of little nagging injuries that effected him and his play everyday. Even 300 HR and 2500 hits for a short stop in that era wasn't something you really saw a lot.

Jamaal Wilkes but not Keith Wilkes, Jamaal the Laker was an arrogant jerk bitching for foul calls while Keith was an earnest hustling workhorse at Golden State.

A god in the ABA for the Pacers, actually better than Julius for at least a(MVP) season, George McGinnis while in the NBA, got lazy and out of shape. Things didn't go his way once Doc arrived in Philly and Georgie sulked and underperformed his way to Denver and then to Indianapolis and then out of the league. A monumental waste of talent from an athlete who had Hall of Fame potential.

yeah, true 300 and 2500 is still an achievement- But that makes him a good player: not an all-time great, and thats why I'm saying he's overrated.

But just so I make myself clear, I'm saying that the streak may have robbed Cal of 25-35 HRs and 200 hits. Playing every day takes its toll. Also, you have to remember, this guy was a short stop. He wasn't an outfielder or a corner baseman.

Do you remember the season he held out the first 2 games of the season because he wanted to get paid and Dallas lost those two games. Jerry caved quick and they ended up in the Super Bowl. That's the way you prove your worth.
