Menswear advice needed for Christmas midday lunch with drinks at an Ivy restaurant

Hi All,

I am attending a Christmas midday lunch with drinks at an Ivy restaurant in Marlow, Buckinghamshire.

There will be circa 80 people in attendance of all adult age and I would expect most male guests to be wearing a suit with shirt (open neck or with a tie) or at the very least a jacket with shirt and very smart jeans.

I am considering wearing a black suit with black open necked shirt and black shoes. I would likely be wearing a black coat on arrival before removing it as I enter the premises.

Perhaps some may consider a black suit with black open necked shirt and black shoes too harsh or inappropriate styling for such an event. I would be very thankful for the opinion of users of this forum.

Many thanks

I'm a black clothing lover, but not sure for that scenario...
You run the risk of people handing you their empty cocktail glasses, or parking slips for validation.

Depends. Are you planning on whacking anyone?

Serious answer, no. Tweed jacket (with a light shirt) and some flannel trousers would be perfect.

I have to chime in! It takes a certain kind of man to truly look grand in black. I would suggest a not-so-conservative approach to the look. Do you have any alligators? C'mon now.
