In responding to my own last post, I asked my local Brook Brothers staff this question - who exactly makes the current Brooks Brothers shoes collection? They discussed it and one gentleman, whom I truly believe knows a great deal about the Brooks Brothers products (and history) stated uncategorically the shoes are manufactured by three companies: Peal & Co., Crockett and Jones, and Alden Shoe Co. Absolutely not Church's, Allen Edmonds, or Sargent - as has been stated here. So yes, he is saying Peal does in fact still manufacture shoes as a separate entity (with Brooks Brothers ownership, of course).

I suspect that the sales people are either told that Peal & Co is a real manufacturing entity, or they're told to tell the consumers it is such. It is not.

No..... unless they are doing it in a bunker deep beneath Northampton

I could always be wrong, of course, but I'm pretty sure that the gentleman is wrong.

Peal & Co did make shoes and other leathergoods of its own accord, a long time ago.
However, for the past few decades, it has simply been a "shell company", as it were - it is owned by Brooks Brothers and the upper line of leathergoods stocked by BB is labelled as Peal & Co but they are made by other companies. As far as I am aware, the companies that make shoes for BB that are labelled as Peal & Co are Alfred Sargent, C&J, and Alden.

In regard to other leather goods, I know that Swaine Adeney & Brigg (SAB) make a number of leather bags and portfolios for BB under the Peal & Co label.

This is almost correct to my understanding, but the Peal & Co label is reserved only for items made in England. This may have slipped somewhat but I have yet to see any US made Peal & Co items, and most definitely none made by Alden.

You're right. Peal are only made in England. I think they've used Church's before as well. At least I've got a pair of patent leather formal lace ups that seem to be Church's.

You're probably correct and, if so, I apologise for any confusion. Thanks for pointing out my error.
