need sources for heavy weight denim by the yard.

Try Kurabo. They provide the denim for many of the best manufacturers. It will be a cut above anything found in department stores (Seven, True Religion, etc...). If you're looking for true, japanese, high quality denim this is a good place to start.

Nisshinbo is another Japanese denim manufacturer, as well as Kaihara. Basically the trifecta of super premium denim.

Should mention that I doubt that any of the companies mentioned will sell by the yard. If you are looking for small quantities, you may be directed to a secondary company who would handle smaller sized orders, bolt ends, etc...
