Since I became 21, maybe - and this is a stretch - one week.

I often go several weeks. I usually don't drink unless somebody reminds me to do so.

6 months self-imposed after a post-Christmas/New Year's bender in New Orleans many, many years ago. I was worried that I might be an alcoholic after that particular episode, so I wanted to prove I could give up alcohol.

Frankly, I have found quitting caffeine harder (probably because of the inevitable headache).

Same here. I'll stretch to months in some cases. We still have bottles of liquor dating back to our honeymoon. However, in the instance I have a case of beer in the house, I pretty well jump on that.

I give alcohol up for Lent every year, and it feels great. There are sometimes when I go for weeks without a drink, depends on what I'm up to. When training for a triathlon..like I am now...I won't drink again for months..but when I do ....it sure does taste good!

What do you guys mean by it feels great, really? I mean I feel crappy the next morning, but I feel good the rest of the week in general. Were you guys drinking every night? Or alcohol somehow managed to affect the rest of the week?

I didn't drink from age 19 to 22, aside from some champagne on my 21st birthday.

[Insert Debbie Downer pic]

When I was 19, my best friend (also 19) was driving home from an AA meeting (yeah, we started early) and got a flat. When he got out to change it, yep you guessed it, a drunk driver nailed him and killed him. Considering that same night, about five miles away, I got so drink I couldn't even remember driving home, I hung up my spurs for a while.

I've since taken it up again. Sometimes with a vengeance.

I really don't drink very much, so it can be an easy month between drinks, seldom more because of work dinners with wine, but a month easy

I'm sure I've gone several weeks without a drink, as an adult, but I just can't remember such periods with certainty. If I stopped doing social things, had my entire wine cellar and liquor collection removed, I could probably carry on my merry way with never having a drink again. But drinking is a very social activity, and I'm a very social person. And like sex, you don't really need it to survive, but it brings pleasure on several levels, so why not engage in it on a regular basis?
