If you use colored creme or wax, the museum effect will disappear over time (and probably not much time). If you do your regular maintenance regimen with a neutral/clear creme or polish, the original finish will be retained.

I've seen others complain that the museum effect is lost after polishing, but I followed binge's advice and after over a year of wear, the finish is still there. Mine are chestnut museum. I use Crema Nubiana and then alternate using medium brown Saphir wax and cream. I am careful not to use too much.

I use colored cream, as recommended by Lobb, followed by neutral wax. Mine have retained their color.
