I am looking for a shoe that can be worn, at college, without seeming out of place. I was looking through an old issue of GQ and found an article about bit loafers... but I cannot find it today.

I am throwing these out there. I think the jm loafers look better then the ones on the polo website. Boat shoes just look lame to me. I cant really afford these, but I am having trouble finding cheaper shoes that I like.

In junior year of high school, when I decided loafers were what I needed, I settled on these Timberlands or their similarly designed Venetians of years past. I was very happy with the design, but they lasted about 6 months of everyday wear. Regardless of their durability, I never received comment, so they weren't out of place.

I cannot offer advice as far as better made things go. Just spend a few hours on Zappos and you'll probably end up pleased (albeit without the ability to re-sole).

i think the first link is the wrong link. they show chinos, with rl butler? loafers. correct me if i am wrong, but those loafers are crockett and jones made, and about a million times nicer than the jm ones. im not sure where to buy them right now tho.

Driving loafers. A little more on the casual side. BR has some for $100.

So are the driving moccasins > the loafers?

I think in this particular example, the mocs look better, but it could be an exception. Is having rubber squares on the back of my heel cool?

I could always just give up here. Not spend 250 dollars on a pair of pants and shoes. Wear shorts and flip flops like last year.

Anyway, I need to find that article in gq. There were like five pairs of bit loafers, one of which I think looked very nice.

Penny loafers/Weejuns is a college classic. Or maybe go with boat shoes.

With all of the worthy aspirants to higher education who are unable, through no fault of their own, to attend college, I find those who loaf their way through to be a national disgrace. NO LOAFERS IN COLLEGE, says I.

I would recommend either penny loafers or driving mocs, as mentioned before. No one would give you a second glace in either of those - at least down south.

I actually have a pair of Sperry Topsiders... I always thought they looked bad with long pants. Now I realize the pants were just too wide. I am going to buy those ralph lauren pants when the sale starts tommorow. I am still thinking about getting the driving mocs also. Having two pairs of shoes won't be too much I am sure.

I love my Alden 984's and wear them often in college.
