lightweight coat

I have a light windbreaker type jacket, but I like the look of longer, perhaps kneeish length coats. However, it really doesn't get very cold here in NC, so I'd need one in a fairly light material. I think a light trench coat may be the right choice, but I don't really like the belt, and an average wool coat is probably too heavy. I like darker colors like gray and navy better than the traditional khaki. I think I'd prefer the look of double breasted, but single breasted is also fine. Also, I'd prefer it not to be too formal because I dress fairly casually. So basically I'd appreciate specific suggestions as well as types and fabrics as long as they're not too expensive.
