Dumb question but are leather jackets trendy and if so which style/colours/etc? I'm thinking they are relatively normalized with middle aged or younger people (in other words soccer moms in tights and Rick Owens picking up junior after their yoga classes) but they don't seem to be super big like when everyone was into fashion riders.

They def feel normalized, especially through womenswear. Women use them as a substitute for a tailored jacket, the standard for a "business uniform."

That said, I think it holds some small edge. Many older, more conservative men wouldn't wear one. Just feels like a once trendy garment ten years ago because of Kanye and Hedi, spread through middle-class ubiquity, and now has a mix of associations ranging from badass to business casual.

Schott isn't considered a fashion jacket AFAIK. There's also a difference between riding in a city vs on the road vs on a track. Most people in cities tend not to be heavily protected....
They make both.

This comes up a lot in their forums, especially when the late Gail was still alive, but Jason Schott and others will also chip in. Someone will say he wants to buy jacket X or downsize jacket Y, and they'd push back saying "that's not appropriate for riding, consider this instead" etc.

I really hate the rider-as-cardigan trend. All of the above outfits are bad, except maybe McCain's (probably because it's not being worn on top of a dress or dressy clothing, and because the brass fittings add some visual interest.)

I haven't ridden in years but I started when I was about 10 or 11 and dumped so many of them I can't even begin to count. Rode a Bonneville into a 6' deep drainage ditch running along a flooded road riding with my feet on the handlebars.

These all look terrible and out of place.

Ok here it is, Schott 594. Thoughts on the fit? Camera settings were a bit quirky doing this quickly. I think it looks pretty good unbuttoned, the back (and front a bit) balloon out when zipped but not sure if that is just part of the style. Here's one pic then more in the spoilers.

This back piece flares out a bit

Evidenced here with the folding as well. This is if the elasticized waist is sitting at the waist, if it's pulled down it's not doing that as much.

Seems the similar material bunching occurs on the model as well

Yea, it's odd. I'm both used to it and not used to it.

Fifty or sixty years ago, leather motorcycle jackets were a symbol of the anti-Establishment. And now they're very much Establishment, least in womenswear.

My Blackmeans is a XXL which equates to a sz 5 I believe. I would like to get another Blackmeans but it looks like Haven and Mr Porter don’t stock Blackmeans anymore so I’m SOL. I’m not comfortable ordering direct from Japan

I'm 6ft4 but hears how a couple slp leathers look on me and @boxdok what size did you get for that Blackmeans since I always wanted to pick up a leather from them.

For reference I'm a TTS medium and I own a size 2, 3 and 4 in Blackmeans jackets. They fit pretty much the same. You really need measurements for their stuff because it's all over the place.

I've had a lot of luck on Y!JP and Mercari with Blackmeans jackets, trousers and jeans. They're way more affordable there than on Grailed etc. It doesn't surprise me that Mr Porter isn't selling Blackmeans anymore because their pieces were ridiculously expensive. I have a jacket that they had on their website for 2260 usd, but I only paid 400 something for it I believe.
