Are the custom shirts by Land's End all made in Hong Kong, or depending on the shirt could it be from the Phillipines, Brunei, Peru or any of the other places they get their clothes from?

the shirts could be made in any factory that is set up to receive the infromation produced by the company that proceses the orders.
There are factories in the Dom. Republic as well as several in the orient.

the factories have to be consistant with the tolerences in sewing. meaning all of the factories have to take 1/4" stitch and not 3/8" otherwise the shirt will not come out right.
So in theory you could make a white pinpoint shirt in DR and One in malaysia and they should be identical.

The last time I ordered an LE custom shirt was just a year into that program, so about 2002'ish. One order came from Malaysia and one, I am pretty sure, from Texas.

FWIW, IMO, the LE custom shirt program is not nearly as good a value of many MTM programs out there.

That's why I was wondering about HK, since HK taylors seem to have a good rep for MTM shirts. The reason Lands' End appeals to me is their Guaranteed. Period. policy, since apparently almost everyone's first MTM doesn't turn out quite right.

This is true. I've tried it, and the shirt had sail-like proportions. The fabric quality and construction weren't so hot either.

On the other hand, I have a non-custom OCBD from Lands End which has much better construction, and the fabric is now nice and soft. After tailoring, it's great.

Yeah, I've reviewed them in another thread: slim is not an option. Off-topic: this thread reminds me of a time, years ago when I still cared about such things, where everyone in the know was looking for Intel chips made at a specific one of their factories in Asia because they ran faster than the ones made in other factories. (I'm not sure anyone ever knew why.)
