Hello everybody,

It's been a while. I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong section. Need some help with bespoke shoes. I know this has been discussed before and I did find the old threads. Just wondering if there have been any new experiences and if anything has changed at Lobb or Cleverly.

I'm looking for a pair of Bespoke shoes. Calfskin. Light brown. Oxfords. Maybe Cap-toe. So nothing exotic.

I'm familiar with both shops. Visited Lobb a couple of times. Always been in too much in a rush to spend more time there. I've watched the videos of both houses on YouTube. I sort of get who they are.

Just need some help with people who own a pair of Lobbs or Cleverlys or both. What's the difference? Which shoe is more comfortable? Which shoe turned out they way you expected it to turn out? What are you not satisfied with etc? Blob vs. Chisel toe (see, I did read those old threads).

I live in NYC so the shoes will get worn, and worn hard. I walk most places. I've used Church's and Lobb (North Hampton RTW) all my life. I like both but I find the Lobbs more comfortable. I have a regular foot. No fallen arches. Perhaps a little short and wide. I used to wear 8.5 Ds but I find 8 or even 7.5Fs fit well. Depending on the shoe.

One odd thing, my tailor on the Row (well known) says most of his customers go to Cleverly. In fact he doesn't know of anybody who goes to Lobb. He has been on the Row for 70 years, and I figure he would know the guys at Lobb. Nope. He does know George Glasgow well. I just find this interesting.

thanks

If you're commissioning bespoke, then either one would be comfortable assuming it's done well.

Don’t have experience with either but just from my reading and hearsay, Cleverly seems more popular and affordable. GJC also travel to a lot more cities in the US.

I’m currently having a pair of JLP bespoke shoes made. You should consider them also if you’re also thinking of JLSJ.
