job interview in a cowboy hat and boots

a few days a week I work out of a coffee shop, instead of going to the office. today, there is a guy being interviewed for an IT job at the table next to me. african american, from his voice I would bet he is from chicago or the urban midwest. he is wearing a cowboy hat and boots, with a red sweater and pants. interesting choice.

One of the lies hollywood popularized was that cowboys were white. In fact a very large percentage of cowboys were black and Mexican since it was considered the worst job you could get in the West. In Texas it's still common to see black men in cowboy boots and hats though they are mostly of an older generation.

judging by the location - a nice chicago suburb, and this guys accent, I don't believe he has ever actually boyed a cow. I think the it was a fashion statement.
