Is this jacket a sport coat?

Does it have matching trousers?

Edit: Perhaps a bit pedantic, but I find it surreal that this could be so complex that years of threads have been devoted to the topic.

What we call "sports jackets" were originally nothing more than parts of country or sporting suits - in most cases they too had matching trousers. A suit is simply a set of clothes that go together. What is meant by the modern "suit" is an urban lounge suit.

And what is usually meant by "sports jacket" is that part of what would originally be a country or sporting suit anyway. A navy blazer, though out of place on the moors, is still a sports jacket because it is part of sporting clothes which normally go with it (flannels, white trousers, etc).

If it has matching trousers, it is a suit. Is it a country suit, city, party? These things determine whether or not it can be worn separately without looking odd, but that is all. Details are all down to taste, as far as I'm concerned.

I've been trying to make sense of suit jacket versus sport coat versus Predator for a few years now and if anything, it's all become more inscrutable. By this point I'm not sure if I know the difference between a blazer and a space suit.

Depends if you're planning on even wearing pants. If you're not, then this whole conversation is a moot point
