I just got a pair of Quoddys in anticipation of spring - traditional with the white sole. For the "fashion crowd," I suspect you will continue to see riffs on the classics this spring - blue leather, brick soles, chukka style, etc., before they move on to something else.

All the fashion magazines and stores are still pushing boat shoes, so I'd say it's not dead yet. They're in brighter colors and new fabrics though.

I wonder if this is the segue back to flashy sneakers (A Bathing Ape, retro Pumas), which were popular not too long ago ...

They will always have their function. Therefore, they might stop being trendy but they will never "die."

I'm looking forward to the return of warm weather so that I can break out my boat shoes again. Nothing is more comfy in summer IMO.

I am actually seeing more boat shoes than ever for the coming SS seasons just from the previews and current releases.

So if it did "die" in the 80s but didn't stay that way... it wasn't really "dead," right? (scratching head). Maybe just comatose?

Well, Huey Lewis and the News never broke up either. They've continued to tour, playing on the casino and state fair circuit in front of dwindling crowds of corndog-stuffed fans who can't recognize a walking corpse when they smell one.
