Is it ok to wear AE strands with slacks (i.e. business casual)?

I understand that it is appropriate to wear lace-ups with a suit. However, is it similarly acceptable to wear lace-ups with slacks and a shirt when not wearing a tie or jacket? Or, am I required to wear a loafer? Please advise. Thanks-

no.

you will be taken to the rear of your office building and shot if you were to be as callous as to wear lace ups without a tie.

don't even dream of it.

really? really? Is this a serious question?

Totally fine unless you work in a specific niche in the fashion industry that frowns upon it. 99% of people wouldn't think twice about it.

Bluchers or loafers would be more appropriate for wear with a shirt and slacks, or with coat and tie, for that matter, than a balmoral like the Strand. I've worn my Strands with coat and tie, but wouldn't with anything more casual than that. However, the overwhelming mass of humanity who do not frequent clothing fora will be oblivious to such niceties.

I wear lace-ups with slacks and a dress shirt. Hell, I've even been known to wear lace-ups with jeans.

This may be the technically correct answer, but in reality, there is no issue with wearing a balmoral, especially one like the strand, with a shirt and slacks. Wearing something more formal, like the Park Avenue, may not look quite right, but the Strand looks great with a shirt and slacks.
