If a man is 5ft 9inches tall. How much on average would you think he would need to weigh in lbs to fit into a 38inch chest/Short or Regular suit?

Most of the proportions on the HF boys is close to a 36R, however, you're going to probably find it too tight at the chest, right under the armpits. Also the arms could be tight depending on how you're built.

If it fits your budget, I suggest looking at RL Black Label. I find it fits me well except a bit tight on the upper arms. For reference, I'm 5'6 135. I have a 7" drop

I think, but I'm not sure, that a 36 is roughly equivalent to the largest sized Boys suit (20 or 22?). You may have better luck in the Polo, Brooks Bros, and Hickey Freeman Boys section.

In Europe (ala France), that's the size of a 20-30 something man.

I'm between 5.8" and 5.9" and im between a 34 and a 36. its nearly impossible to find anything that fits me, but iv found that Paul smith and Ralph lauren bl seem to cater to my size best. I guess the answer lies in a good quality tailor otherwise, but i'm yet to find one.

Agreed, that's a big ole boy.

One problem with buying a Boys 20 is the lack (and depth) of pockets compared to a Men's 36 or 37. Construction is also usually not as fine (understandable) but at least with Polo, Brooks, and Hickey you can get some good fabrics and styles. Boys is usually cheaper and easier to find than a Men's 36.

One would expect a fair few proportional differences between a large Boy's size and a small Men's size, even if the basic height/weight measures might be fairly similar. I don't think it's a particularly wise short-cut to buy a large Boy's size, esp. without trying it on first.

Anyway, to answer the OP, yes 38S will be more common than 36R. Having said that, the more fashion-oriented shops should stock 36R. Elsewhere, you'll need to order in. Or shop online.

I cant believe suit makers dont make suits smaller than 36inches! They make suits as high as 54inch+ so do they not realize there are many men smaller than 38inches.
The average man must be about 40inch at most. So why make suits so much higher than 40inches and so little less than 40inches?

haha, I would love to wear Black Label...but I can't afford it. Someone else earlier mentioned Zara's? I don't think we have one in the states, definitely not in Ohio.

I take it 36R is more common in Europe than in the States?
