Seriously. I never thought I'd say this, but I would seriously consider getting another type of phone in the future.

Then again, the other cell phone companies will probably do the same garbage.

They will.

Also this isn't just restricted to the iPhone. I guess you mean that you won't stick with AT&T and they're the exclusive carrier of the iPhone though.

The times app really is great. When a magazine app is written specically for the platform its great, but when it's just a PDF, like GQ, it blows

I'm thinking of getting Zinio. Great selection of magazines for low cost.

Anyway have any experience with it?

I have the Zinio app, but haven't downloaded anything besides the 3 free sample magazines they give you. From the sample National Geographic, it doesn't look like they've thought too hard about magazine layout for an iPad, because you have page cuts across a single paragraph: the paragraph is divided vertically down the middle, so you have to flip back and forth to read it. They do have a pretty wide-ranging selection. People on SF might like GQ, Esquire, Stereophile, the 3 big American car magazines, as well as a bunch of foreign magazines that may not be easy to get.

The iBook app is surprisingly good. I wasn't expecting it to be, but it's pretty addictive, especially if you're on long plane flights. I've bought and read a few books already, and have to control myself unless my iTunes bill goes through the roof. The selection's not great yet, but it's not bad, and I can only imagine it getting better.

The ABC and Netflix apps are also great. The ABC app looks like Hulu rewrapped with ABC branding, and you can watch streaming movies from Netflix. We don't think much of it these days, but it struck me the other day that I was watching relatively high-res video wirelessly on a 1.6-lbs, thin pad that's touch-controlled. It was like the future arriving: the only thing missing was a flying car in my garage.

They really still have to work on pricing. The fact that publishers want the same price (or sometimes even more!) for the dead tree version is insane.

Unless you're abroad like me, where you can save a ton.

This is of course with the exception of international newspapers which are published here too.

For me international magazines are even more. I think a dew hong kong periodicals were 14-16 and some international conde Nast pubs were like 12 bucks.

The book store app UI and layout doesn't make any sense and it's difficult to browse for books to buy. Dumb.

Eric Persing shows a very cool live performance application of using Spectrasonics Virtual Instruments like Omnisphere, Trilian and Stylus with the iPad via a new third party app called "Air Display" - which turns the iPad into a wireless, external touchscreen monitor for Macs. BTW, this iPad app and the techniques shown in the video can be used with any software....but it's particularly interesting with software like the professional Omnisphere Power Synth that is far too powerful to run on the iPad natively.

I can't type on the iPad. If you know how to type, then it's hard to not rest your fingers on the keyboard. With the iPad, resting your fingers on the keyboard means that you screw up your typing. AFter using one and trying to type, I realized that the gadget doesn't work for me.
