Interview help

I have an interview at Cambridge next week and I was thinking of a sport coat and blue/white striped shirt. I was warned by the college not to dress too smartly, but I want to give a good impression. Would wearing smart trousers be too much or should I stick with straight dark jeans?

I received a letter telling us not to wear suits, otherwise I certainly would.

I'd wear trousers with an odd jacket.

They will be interviewing you, not your clothes. What ever you choose, keep it quiet. Avoid loud patterns or combo's. Be yourself and don't talk too much. Clean and presentable will do nicely.
If you wear something too loud it can be inferred as being some form of compensation for having lesser skills, and it is the skills that they are looking for. Best of luck on the interview.

I wonder why? I would think they would want to see what prospective students would wear to an interview without setting any guidelines.

Cambridge judge you by your clothing? Of course not. And they won't even notice the Geordie accent.

Another vote for sport coat, wool pants and good shoes. No jeans. Good luck.

First of all, good luck in the interview.

For the clothes, put them on, take a picture and let's see. I think you will be fine, but I also would not wear jeans for the interview.

I was watching a video about their interviews: http://mediaplayer.group.cam.ac.uk/g...2005-Interview At least I'll be better dressed than the first candidate in the video! Clothes are being dry-cleaned at the moment, but I'll try to take a picture tomorrow.
