Money is a little tight. I want to pickup something nice without breaking the bank. What stores can I check out on/offline? Also, whats the best material, in terms of look and feel, that I should look for within this price range? Thanks in advance!

well what kinda sportcoat do you want?

plain wool, tweed, linen, cotton, etc? Thats the first thing you want to find out. For instance, if you want tweed, ebay has literally hundreds of dirt cheap tweed sport coats.

Well, this being my first sports coat..I'm thinking about sticking with wool but a nice tweed one might work well. Basically I want something versatile and casual while at the same time looking sharp. The only thing is I live in florida and the summers can be pretty hot. Would wool be too warm for summer?

Living in FLA you'd be best suited to stick to tropical wools or linen for year-round wear. Fresco is also a great hot weather fabric, but I don't think it is durable enough for a go-to sportcoat. Better for a suit when you already have a number of suits in your wardrobe.

My advice would get a blue sportcoat or blazer (if you are so Anglo-inclined). Navy blue is far and away the most versatile and easiest color to pull off.

Here are a few examples of decent blazers under 200. I would suggest having a look at Yoox. I don't know if it applies to the US but it has a free return service, providing the return postage labels with the item. You can pick up a good bargain on yoox. O would suggest you look in the sale. There are a few good spoartcoats in there, good names, under £200. There are four in Cantarelli that may be to your liking

I am also looking for a good deal on a sport coat for hot weather wear. I tooled around, and there are a number of great deals on fall/winter closeouts. Of course, these won't be tropical weight fabric. As we get closer to summer, you will see retailers advertising the 2012 spring/summer lines with some better options (linen for example if you are so inclined). If you want to go cheap, try Mens Wearhouse, either online or in store. You should be able to find a summer weight sport coat for ~$200, maybe less.
