Identification, Environment, Data and Procedure. Well done!

COBOL is still used all over the world. All of my banking clients are still running their account-processing applications on '80s COBOL technology.

My jaw hit the floor and my eyes glazed over.

"What?!?" She imploringly questioned me. "What did I say wrong? Italy is a country in Europe. Paris is shaped like a boot"

"Italy certainly is", I replied, "But Paris is in France, which is a completely different country than Italy. And France is not shaped like a boot."

This person is 19, Is it even possible to have graduated from High School, and gone to a year of college while under the impression that Paris is a country shaped like a boot? I doubt that she would even be able to find Europe on a map. She'd probably point to Canada.

Anyone else have any FIRST HAND accounts of egregious stupidity?

I would have offered her the prize money anyway if she had agreed to be sterilized.

You know, with some of these stories I'm cringing just a little bit - I've been on the wrong side of an argument before, should have known better ever before I opened my fool mouth. Then thing escalate, and of course I don't back down. My last saving grace is that I don't resort to ad-hom attacks, cause then a apology becomes necessary, rather than advisable.

Never argue with an idiot. They will just bring you down to their level and beat you with their experience!
