I do not know if there is an european style but I see many striped shirts in american movies...I think the bold stripes fit in nicely with current european style, which is where Ernest resides (france), if I recall correctly.
I wouldn't pick this shirt for myself for the same reason.Sorry ernest, not my taste. Â The stripe pattern/colour combination does not appeal to me.
