I really need help with suit sizing dilemma

I recently bought two signature gold suits from Jos A. Bank that were on sale from $995 to $250. I normally wouldn't buy a Jos A. Bank suit, but this deal was too good to pass up.

I bought one suit in size 40 short and one in 39 regular. Now here is my dilemma:

The 39 regular:
- Fits perfectly in the shoulders... has a more tailored look than the 40 short
- The arm holes are a bit slimmer, which I like better... again adding to the tailored look
- The regular pants fit better in the crotch and thus wouldn't require alterations

All around the 39 regular fits like a glove EXCEPT is to too LONG. It is about 1 to 1.5 inches below where ****** meet my legs. This then makes my legs look short.

The 40 short:
- Fits slightly bigger in the shoulders than I like... the difference is small, but still noticeable to me
- The arm holes are slightly baggier, again detracting from the fitted, tailored look
- The short sized pants are too short from the waste to the crotch.

Overall fits slightly baggier than I would like.. it doesn't look as fitted as the 39, BUT the length is much better than the regular length.

Now unfortunately, the 39 does not come in a short size, so I am pretty much in a catch 22. I would really appreciate any advice on the matter. I would like to keep both suits, but I just don't know what can be done.

Thanks

Personally, it sounds like the 39R fits you better than the 40S but that both have serious fit issues that won't be solved by tailoring.

How tall are you?

My one piece of advice -- that I have failed to follow on a few occassions, to my regret -- is to not buy a suit if the pants aren't going to fit you right with alterations (and it sounds like the 40S pants aren't).

Get a 39S or have the lenght of the 39R altered by a tailor.

$250 for a Jos A Bank suit is expensive to me....

measure your present suits from the pocket opening duwn to the hem.
measure the same on the 39. you could shorten the 39 about 1/2 or 3/4 of
an inch and still have it look right. more and it will look odd.

Lots of brands would work fine for you. Don't limit yourself to Jos. A Bank by any means. $250 is not a steal for that suit, in any case.
