Honestly, I have no idea how to tell (I can tell on a human, but not a cat). There were some guys moving who checked, though, and seemed to think he was a male.

I live in a townhouse/condo type situation, so i don't have a backyard. I found him in a dumpster at the end of the row.

Cool looking cat. Strays make me very sad. We breed so many f***ing animals in this country and staggering, just staggering numbers of them end up lost, abused, or put down. I guess there are sadder and worse things in life, but it just seems so wasteful, so cavalier, so indifferent to life. I probably make a mistake in overly anthropomorphizing things, but it really makes me sad.

If the cat were an intact male, you could definitely tell, given that he (?) is a short-haired cat. A lady friend of mine once adopted a cat she was sure was a "she" and took "her" in to be spayed, only to learn that he was neutered male.

That's a good-looking cat, and he seems to have a friendly, tame disposition. What do you really need for a cat? Food, a couple of bowls, a tray for Kitty Litter, a scratching post (maybe) and a few toys. Were I you, I'd be inclined to adopt him/her/it if the owner can't be found. Does anyone really "own" a cat? They sort of deign to grace us with their presence.

He is kind of growing on me. He seems to love climbing on me while I sit at my desk.
I'm at school/the law library almost all the time, though (except not right now bc it's spring break). I'm not sure I could give him the attention that he probably needs.

Put up a few posters around the block. In the meantime feed him dry food, give him a bowl of water, and get a litter box. Provided you can maintain those three things you are giving him all the attention he needs.
Pet when stressed, add catnip when bored, blame everything on when vexed. What more do you need?
